Deep Cuts: Garage

Finland's The Mutants are an impressive ensemble band, currently made up of six performers, who fit into a rare category of instrumental music that only a handful of other acts, such as Man Or Astro Man, Goblin and Kreftwerk, have managed to create for themselves.

Formed in 1998 in Helsinki, this group has describes their own sound as "punk/surf/garage based stuff smashed through Parliament/Funkadelic filter." The Mutants consistently showcase their wide range of influences including surf, garage, 70's underground rock, psychedelia, porn funk, mambo, and even late night television programming. Put these together with a deep musical skill set and you have one amazing act.

The Mutants ”Mutacalypso Now!” album will be released on Friday Sep 13th 2013.

Deep Cuts From Bloggy's Vault: Funk

Curtis Mayfield was twice inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame for his cinematic soulful tracks including work on the Superfly Soundtrack. During a 1990 show in New York a freak accident left him paralyzed and effectively ended his career - although he would record a final album (New World Order in 1996) and remarking, "How many 54-year-old quadriplegics are putting albums out?".
