Deep Cuts From Bloggy's Vault: College Radio

Some Assembly RequiredJon Nelson, former Radio K DJ at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul, is a musician and a hard-to-find expert on sound-collages and "mash-ups" whose Some Assembly Required was one-of-a-kind on college radio or any radio.

The tracks and sound collages Nelson featured on his show were a kind of re-assembly of the modern world in terms of songs and vocal cuts that were then re-combined into something new - like experimental rap with an IQ. Bands like the bizarre Wayne Butane (his Bowl Full Of Assholes needless to say not accepted for broadcast), The Tape Beatles and more famously: Negativland - whose The Letter U and The Numeral 2 practically defined 21st music patent law, were regularly played on Nelson's show which ran from 2002 to January of 2011.
