Off The Shelf: James Kochalka

James Kochalka is a alternative comic artist with a growing body of work.
His black and white artwork, as seen in Bogus Undead, is unusually layered thematically and rendered very simply. His work explores angsty personal spaces with saccharin soaked characters. They conduct these grim, self-effacing conversations voiced through characters such as "Elf-boy" and a strange re-interpretation of Japanese "spoof" characterization, Boo - whose special ability is ... Tinkle Power?

The books are very funny, personal and genuine. The style resembles South Park's Towelie and the work of Chuck Burns but w/out the sardonic and bitter overtones.
